About the Mortgage Rate API

Mortgage Rate provides current and historical mortgage rate data from 1971 to present. The data comes from Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey, which has tracked mortgage rates weekly since the early 1970s. The latest rate comes with its weekly change, and with changes=true paid plans add the change over 4 and 52 weeks in percentage points, the 52-week high, low and average, and the 52 weekly rates with history=true. Use this for mortgage calculations, market analysis, and financial planning.

Questions.

Common questions about the Mortgage Rate API.

Read the docs →
What loan terms and mortgage types are covered?
The API covers US 30-year and 15-year fixed-rate mortgages. On paid plans, data includes weekly averages dating back to 1971 through the present. Adjustable-rate loans and terms outside 15 or 30 years are not included.
Where does the mortgage rate data come from and how fresh is it?
Rates come directly from the Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey, which has monitored US mortgage rates since 1971. New data points are updated weekly to reflect current survey findings.
Are historical lookups and weekly rate changes available on the Free plan?
No, filtering by year and month requires a paid subscription. Premium fields like week-over-week, 4-week and 52-week rate changes, previous rates and dates, the 52-week high, low and average, and the weekly rows from history=true also require Starter or higher. The Free plan provides current weekly rate figures and the direction of the latest move.
Which plan fits 25,000 mortgage rate lookups a month?
Starter handles this volume with room to spare. At 2 credits per call, 25,000 lookups use 50,000 credits, or a quarter of the 200,000 credits on Starter. That works out to about $0.30 per 1,000 calls. The Free plan includes 100 calls per month.
Can I display these rates in a commercial calculator or lending dashboard?
Yes, any paid plan allows commercial use in public calculators, financial planning software, and client portals. You may display and analyze the data within your product, but you cannot resell or redistribute the raw dataset.
