About the Barcode Generator API

This barcode API handles barcode generation in one call: send a SKU, order ID, product number or any text and get back a scannable barcode image. Choose Code 128 (including the A, B and C subsets), Code 39, retail EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and UPC-E, the EAN-2 and EAN-5 add-ons, ITF-14 and ITF for cartons, Codabar, MSI or Pharmacode, and optionally hide the text label beneath the bars. The API renders the image and returns a temporary download URL, image filename, pixel width and height, and Unix expiration timestamp. Paid plans can set the bar width, bar height and quiet-zone margin, and customize line and background colors and the label font size and spacing.

What people use it for

Warehouse Inventory Labeling
Logistics managers turn incoming SKU numbers into Code 128 barcodes to print adhesive tracking tags for pallet racks.
Retail Order Invoicing
When generating digital receipts, e-commerce storefronts append Code 39 barcode images so cashiers can scan returns at store counters.
Event Ticket Production
Embed unique scannable barcodes on printable PDF conference badges before sending confirmation emails to attendees.
Internal Asset Tracking
IT teams create compact Code 128 tags without bottom text labels to catalog laptops and monitors in inventory databases.

Questions.

Common questions about the Barcode Generator API.

Read the docs →
Which barcode formats does the barcode API support?
Set the type parameter to code128 (or the code128a, code128b and code128c subsets), code39, ean13, ean8, upc, upce, the ean5 and ean2 add-ons, itf14, itf, codabar, msi (with msi10, msi11, msi1010 and msi1110 check digits) or pharmacode. Code 128 suits SKUs and shipping labels, EAN and UPC are the retail symbols, and ITF-14 marks cartons. EAN and UPC take digits only; leave off the check digit and it is calculated for you. QR codes come from the separate QR Code Generator API.
What would 5,000 barcode generations cost me?
Generating 5,000 barcodes requires 50,000 credits, using a quarter of the Starter plan's 200,000 monthly credits. That volume works out to about $0.0015 per call, or $1.50 per 1,000 barcodes. The Starter plan covers up to 20,000 generations per month, while the Free plan includes 20.
Can I change barcode colors on the Free plan?
No, custom line and background colors require a paid plan. Barcodes generated on the Free plan use the default black lines on a white background. Subscribing to Starter or above unlocks custom line and background color parameters.
Do the barcode download links expire?
Yes, download links are temporary. The response includes an expiration Unix timestamp showing when the download URL becomes invalid. You should download and store the barcode image in your own storage instead of permanently hotlinking the URL.
Can I omit the text label beneath the barcode?
Yes, set the display value parameter to false to hide the encoded string. The human-readable text appears beneath the bars by default, but you can turn it off whenever your packaging or label layout requires only the barcode pattern.
Can I control the size of the barcode image?
Yes, on paid plans. barWidth sets the width of the narrowest bar in pixels (1 to 10), height sets the bar height (10 to 500 pixels) and margin sets the quiet zone around the symbol (0 to 100 pixels), and fontSize and textMargin set the label. On every plan the response reports the finished image's pixel width and height so you can place it on a label.
How is the generated barcode delivered to my application?
The API returns a direct download URL for the generated image alongside its filename and file format. Your application can immediately fetch the image asset from that link to render or archive it.
